Mirleft is one of Morocco's best-known paragliding spots. The sea breeze rises against the cliffs and lets gliders soar along the coast for long, smooth flights above the beaches. You don't need any experience: local schools offer tandem flights with a qualified pilot.
Why Mirleft is made for paragliding
The cliffs north and south of Mirleft face the ocean, and on most afternoons the wind blows steadily from the sea. That breeze is deflected upwards by the cliff, creating lift that lets a paraglider stay airborne for a long time while flying along the coastline: what pilots call ridge soaring.
The result is a calm, scenic flight above the coves, with the beaches, the surf and the town below you.
What a tandem flight is like
You fly in a two-person harness with an experienced pilot who handles the take-off, the flight and the landing. After a short briefing, you walk or run a few steps and lift off from the clifftop. Flights typically last somewhere between 10 and 30 minutes depending on conditions, and most landings are on the beach or back at the take-off.
Wear closed shoes and comfortable clothes, bring a windproof layer, and ask the school about any weight limits.
Wind and weather
Paragliding depends entirely on the wind. Schools decide on the day, sometimes only an hour before, whether conditions are safe. Keep your plans flexible and give yourself more than one day if a flight matters to you.
Legzira's cliffs, 20 minutes south, are another regular flying site when the wind is right.
Staying nearby
Our three Mirleft villas, DreamCatcher Cliffside Haven, Infinity and Kasbah, sit on the cliffs at the edge of town, a few minutes from the usual take-off areas. Our Tamelalt and Club Evasion villas are about 20 minutes away.
