Where to stay near Legzira Beach: villas 20 minutes away

Legzira is one of the most photographed beaches in Morocco: a sweep of sand below red cliffs, with a huge natural stone arch reaching into the sea. There is little accommodation at the beach itself, and our villas in Mirleft are about 20 minutes north, close enough to time your visit for low tide and sunset.

How to get to Legzira

Legzira lies on the coast road between Mirleft and Sidi Ifni, about 10 km north of Ifni. From Agadir Al Massira airport (AGA), allow around 2 hours 15 minutes by car.

From our Mirleft villas it is about 20 km, roughly 20 minutes. From Tamelalt and Club Evasion allow about 40 minutes. Look for the signed turn-off and parking above the beach; paths and steps lead down to the sand.

The arch

Legzira once had two great arches carved by the sea from red sandstone. One collapsed in 2016; the other still stands and is the reason most people come. The colour of the rock changes through the day and is most dramatic in the late afternoon light.

Stay off the top of the arch and keep clear of the cliff base: the rock is soft and still eroding.

Timing your visit: tides and sunset

Walk along the beach at low tide, when you can pass beneath the arch and explore the rock pools. At high tide parts of the beach are cut off, so check a tide table before you go and keep an eye on the water.

Sunset is the classic time to visit, when the cliffs glow red. Arrive an hour or two before low tide to have time to walk the beach before it fills.

Staying near Legzira

A few small guesthouses and cafés sit on the beach itself, but options are limited. Most visitors stay in Mirleft or Sidi Ifni and drive in.

Our three Mirleft villas, DreamCatcher Cliffside Haven, Infinity and Kasbah, are the closest of our properties, each with a private pool and ocean views.

Things to do nearby

Paragliders launch from the cliffs around Legzira and Mirleft when the wind is right, and local schools offer tandem flights. The beach is also good for long walks and photography.

Continue south to Sidi Ifni for its Spanish Art Deco centre and fishing port, or north to Mirleft for its coves and surf.

Where to eat

The beach cafés serve drinks, simple tagines and fish, which makes a pleasant sunset stop. For more choice, head to Mirleft's main street or to the port in Sidi Ifni for grilled fish.

Practical tips

Wear shoes with grip: the rocks under the arch are slippery and the steps from the car park are steep in places. Bring water, a light layer for the evening wind and some cash for parking and the beach cafés.

Check the tide table the day before and plan to arrive on a falling tide. If you're travelling with children, keep them away from the cliff base and the wet rock at the water's edge.
