Tiznit is a walled market town about 90 km south of Agadir, famous across Morocco for its silversmiths. Most visitors combine a day in the medina with time on the coast, and our villas on Tamelalt Beach are about 25 minutes away by car, so you can spend the morning in the souk and the afternoon by your own pool.
How to get to Tiznit
Tiznit lies on the main road south from Agadir, about an hour and a half from Agadir Al Massira airport (AGA). Long-distance buses and grand taxis connect it with Agadir, Mirleft, Sidi Ifni and Guelmim.
From our Tamelalt and Club Evasion villas, Tiznit is about 25 km, roughly 25–30 minutes by car. From our Mirleft villas allow about 40 minutes.
Why stay on the coast near Tiznit
Tiznit has small hotels and riads inside the walls, but the town is at its best as a day trip. Staying on the coast gives you beaches, sea air and space, with the medina close enough for repeat visits.
Our villas each have a private pool, a full kitchen and terraces, and sit either on Tamelalt Beach or above the coves of Mirleft.
The walled medina
Tiznit was founded in the late 19th century, and its ochre walls run for around 5 km around the old town, pierced by monumental gates. Inside, the lanes are calmer than in Morocco's big cities and easy to explore on foot.
Look for the Grand Mosque, whose minaret bristles with wooden poles, and the Source Bleue, a spring linked to the legend of the town's founding. The main square is a good place for a mint tea and some people-watching.
The silver souk
Tiznit's jewellery souk is the reason many people come. Workshops and shops sell Amazigh (Berber) silver: heavy bracelets, fibulas, enamelled pendants and the Tiznit cross. Quality and prices vary widely, so take your time, compare and expect to bargain.
Around the souk you'll also find leather, spices, argan oil and the everyday markets that serve the region.
Where to eat
Cafés and small restaurants around the main square and the medina serve tagines, couscous, grilled meat and fresh juice at local prices. Friday couscous is a tradition in many places.
For the evening, most guests head back to the coast: grilled fish in Aglou or Mirleft, or the Ocean Dunes House restaurant and Dunes Beach Bar near our Tamelalt villas.
Best time to visit Tiznit
Tiznit is inland, so it is hotter than the coast in summer and cooler on winter nights. Spring and autumn are ideal for exploring the medina; in July and August, visit in the morning or late afternoon and spend the hot hours by the sea.
Winter days are mild and sunny, which makes Tiznit and the coast a popular winter-sun escape.
