Fishing is part of daily life on this coast. At dawn and dusk you'll see local anglers casting from the rocks and beaches between Aglou and Sidi Ifni, and small boats working out of the ports. With a rod, some patience and local advice, it's a lovely way to spend a morning.
Shore and rock fishing
Most recreational fishing here is from the shore: surfcasting from the sandy beaches and fishing from the rocky points that separate the coves. Locals often fish for sea bream, bass and meagre, among other species, and the catch varies with the season and the water.
Ask the anglers you meet: many are happy to share a spot, a bait tip or the best tide.
Tides, swell and safety
Fish around the tide changes and in calm conditions. The Atlantic swell can send big sets over rocks that looked safe minutes earlier, so choose your spot carefully, watch the sea for a while before setting up and never fish alone on exposed ledges.
Wear shoes with grip and keep an eye on the time if you walk out at low tide.
Rules and equipment
Regulations for recreational sea fishing can change: ask us or a local tackle shop whether a permit is required, and respect size limits and closed seasons. Tackle shops in Tiznit and Agadir sell rods, line and bait.
If you don't want to bring gear, simply buying fish from the boats at Sidi Ifni's port and grilling it at the villa is a fine alternative.
Cook your catch
Every villa has a full kitchen and a terrace, and many have a barbecue: grilled fish with lemon, cumin and a Moroccan salad is the classic end to a day on the coast.
