Surfing in Mirleft: A Beginner-Friendly Guide

Journal

Why Mirleft is one of Morocco's best-kept surf secrets — when to go, what to expect, lessons for beginners and where to stay near the waves.

Morocco's surf reputation was built further north, around Taghazout. Mirleft offers the same Atlantic swell with a fraction of the crowds — which makes it a brilliant place to learn, or to surf uncrowded peaks if you already ride.

When to surf

Autumn through spring brings the most consistent swell to this coast, with the biggest days in winter. Summer is usually smaller and gentler — ideal for beginners and families. The water is cool year-round, so bring or rent a wetsuit.

Lessons and rentals

Local surf schools offer group and private lessons with boards and wetsuits included. Instructors know which beach will be working on the day, depending on tide and wind. We're happy to recommend and book a school for you.

Safety first

Atlantic beaches can have strong currents. Surf with a guide until you know the spots, respect the locals, and never paddle out alone on bigger days.

After the session

There's nothing better than rinsing off in your own pool and watching the evening sets roll in from the terrace. Our two villas are a short walk from Tamelalt Beach — check availability for your surf trip.
